Water tank body hangs the delivery in Mumbai Na civil notifications to private wells

The Mumbai Water Tanker Association (MWTA) On Thursday (April 10, 2025), the offer in the city suspended indefinitely to protest against the notifications of the civilian body to the owners of private wells supplying water to the tankers, an official said.

The association has around 1,800 registered tankers with a capacity of 500-20,000 liters. They deliver around 350 billion water to different parts of the city, including the Luxe Zuid -Mumbai, MWTA spokesperson Ankur Sharma told PTI.

They have all taken an “indefinite break” and suspended their activities indefinitely, he said.

The authorities have 200 m² of land, the proof of lease or ownership of PUT, installation of digital water stream meter, compliance with the BIS standard, accurate measurement of the daily intake and some other things made mandatory, in addition to taking a No Objection Certificate (NOC) of the Central Ground Water Authority, said Mr. Sharority.

“It is difficult to implement all these rules in a city like Mumbai. Unless there are some relaxation in these circumstances, tank services will not be resumed,” he said.

“We closed our trade,” said Mr. Sharma.

He said that the MWTA had written letters to Chief Minister Office and other authorities in connection with their issues.

Mumbai Suburban District Guardian Minister Ashish Shelar had also written a letter to the Jal Shakti board about non -taking action against the private wells, but their owners continue to receive notifications from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), claimed Sharma.
