The ongoing one Ranji Trophy 2025-26 Elite Group B match between Kerala And Maharashtra at the Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram, witnessed an early moment of brilliance Rohan kunnummal took a sensational catch to dismiss the Maharashtra opener Arshin Torari. Kerala’s decision to bowl first paid off as their bowlers wreaked havoc on the visiting side’s batting unit.
Sensational catch from Rohan’s Mountain to remove Arshi Kulkarni
The highlight of the morning session came on the very first ball of the second over, bowled by the right-arm pacer Nedumankuzhy basil. He delivered one from slightly wide of the crease, slanting towards the stump. Kulkarni went for a cautious defensive shot, trying to smother the bounce, but the ball veered sharply off the pitch and hit the thick outside edge of his bat.
What followed was pure athleticism and reflexes. Positioned at third slip, Rohan dived completely to his right, grabbing the ball inches above the ground to complete a spectacular catch. The Kerala players erupted with joy as Kulkarni walked back to get a duck, while Rohan’s effort quickly went viral on social media.

Kerala on top as Maharashtra batters falter early
Kerala’s bowling attack made full use of the early morning conditions, taking both pace and movement from the surface. Basil’s ruthless accuracy and MD NidheeshMaharashtra’s ability to hit the right areas kept Maharashtra under constant pressure. Within the first hour, the visitors were reduced to 5 for 53 in just 17 overs.
Nidheesh emerged as the standout performer, claiming three crucial wickets, while Basil contributed with two important scalps. Maharashtra’s top order struggled to settle against the disciplined seamers from Kerala.
At the end of 19 overs, Maharashtra found themselves in deep trouble at 54 for 5, with Travel Giikwad hitting on 16 and Jalaj Saxena (21*) in an attempt to keep the innings steady. The pair will need to build a strong partnership to lead their team to a respectable total.
For Kerala, this strong start set the tone for the rest of the match. The home side will look to capitalize on their early breakthroughs and restrict Maharashtra to a modest score in the first innings. A few more quick wickets could swing the game decisively in their favor.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra is hoping for a revival led by their experienced campaigners. With conditions still offering players movement, patience and effort will be key for the batters if they want to stay in the game.
