Jim Pierson takes an incredible catch to eliminate Glenn Maxwell in BBL|15
Jimmy Peirson produced one of BBL|15’s first highlights in the 12.1 over, diving completely to his right to pull off a glove Glenn Maxwellthrown through Matthew Kuhnemann. Maxwell, setting up for the predictable reverse sweep on a thrown delivery around center and leg, poked it into his path, looping the ball tantalizingly close yet deceptively hard. Peirson tracked it masterfully before lunging to get the screamer, dismissing the Stars danger man for just 1 of 2 balls at 113/4.
This massive breakthrough stifled Stars’ momentum after a thrilling power play, in which Kuhnemann’s economic spell proved crucial, and social media erupted in awe at Peirson’s “whimsicalPeirson, the experienced Heat gloveman, celebrated wildly as Maxwell trudged away, shifting the winning chances firmly to Brisbane at a crucial moment.

Brisbane Heat brave the heat while Melbourne Stars posted a huge total
Melbourne Stars came out flying, racing to 47 without loss in the powerplay Sam Harper went on the attack from ball one. Harper hit a quickfire 37 off just 23 deliveries, finding the fence five times and clearing it once, while Thomas Rogers played the supporting role with 13 off 12 balls. The Stars brought up their fifty inside five overs, underscoring their intentions early on. Harper’s charge ended at 52 to one when he was caught Jack Wildermut out Thomas Balkinand shortly afterwards Rogers was overthrown Matthew Renshaw at 56 for two.
Marcus Stoinis then took the lead, combined with Campbell Kellaway to stabilize the innings and rebuild the momentum. Stoinis made a fluent 43 off 35 balls, while Kellaway chipped in with a quick 29 off just 14, hitting six boundaries. Their partnership took the Stars past 100 by the end of the 11th and reached 109 for three soon after.
The innings briefly lost its form after Maxwell’s departure, with Stoinis dismissed at 134 for five and Tom Curran follows shortly afterwards. However, Hilton Cartwright and Blake Macdonald produced a strong finish, adding an unbeaten 58 in the final overs. Macdonald’s explosive 37 off 12 balls provided a late surge as the Stars piled on runs despite excessive punishment. Brisbane Heat bowlers turned well but were kept under pressure throughout, leaving them with a steep chase of 196 under the Gabba lights.
