Wasserman has become the most powerful football agency in the world, representing more than 1,000 players and former players with a combined value of more than €2 billion.
The Epstein files published email messages between Wasserman and Ghislaine Maxwell, whom he met in 2002 during a humanitarian trip as part of a delegation to the Clinton Foundation.
Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for sex trafficking of minors.
In the messages, Wasserman wrote, “I thought we would start in that place you know, then continue the massage concept in your bed… and then again in the morning… not sure if or when we would stop.”
Maxwell replied, “Um, all that rubbing, are you sure you can handle it? The thought honestly makes me a little breathless. There are a few spots that apparently drive a man wild – I suppose I could practice them on you and you could let me know if they work or not?”
Following the release of the Epstein documents, a number of artists and players, including U.S. women’s national team legend Amy Wambach, said they were leaving the agency.
Late last week, Wasserman said in a memo to staff that he was “heartbroken that my brief contact with them 23 years ago has caused you, this company and its customers so much hardship in recent days and weeks.”
“I am deeply sorry that my past personal mistakes have caused you such inconvenience,” Wasserman wrote to his staff. “It’s not fair to you, and it’s not fair to the customers and partners we so powerfully represent and care about so deeply.”
“I know what I know, and I follow my feelings and my values,” Wambach wrote on Instagram. “I will not participate in any business deal under his leadership… He should leave so that more people like me don’t have to.”
In a statement, Wasserman said: “I deeply regret my correspondence with Ghislaine Maxwell that occurred more than twenty years ago, long before her heinous crimes came to light. I never had a personal or business relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. As has been well documented, in 2002 I went on a humanitarian trip as part of a delegation with the Clinton Foundation on the Epstein plane. I deeply regret having had any association with any of them.”
