Ypsilanti – The 11th Gam Net Chapman was canceled in May for tree damage due to a storm in Kalamazoo Country Club.

Washtenaw Golf Club has arrived and welcomes 42 Twee-Golder teams participating in the 11th GAM Net Chapman Championship presented by Summit Golf Brands on Wednesday 17 September.

The 84 golfers play 18 holes net battles games in the unique Chapman format. In the format, each player plays in the double teams from the Tee-Grond and then plays the teammate or partner ball for the second shot. After the second shot, the partners select the ball with which they want to score and play that ball alternately to complete the gap.

Washtenaw was opened in 1899 and has evolved over the years to a 6,512-yard classic Parkland-style golf course with fairways lined with trees, strategically placed bunkers and fast, wavy greens.

In January 2020, KMD investors took the reins of the historic golf club that is open to the public, and the architect Raymond Hearn’s company established in Michigan carries out MasterPlan Renovation and Restoration Projects.

Hearn’s research into the building found a rare aerial photo from 1930 that he used to reduce some of the classic design functions for golf course. Because of his research, Hearn also found that at least nine holes of the design should be credited to William Herbert “Bert” Way, a golf professional and course designer from England.

The course has a rich tournament history, including organizing the Michigan Amateur Championship from 1927, and many other tournaments and qualifications for both the Golf Association of Michigan and the Michigan PGA.

Zach Szawara is the PGA Head Golf Professional and Mark Pappas is the chief inspector of the golf course.

Last year Jared Aldrich van Ada and Derek Blodgett van Rockford, a few 43-year-old sellers, survived an aggregated net score play-off of three holes and won the 10th Gam Net Chapman Championship presented by Summit Golf Brands Cour, Mich.

Aldrich and Blodgett shot a 5-under 66 in regulation in the unique format, just like Justin Scollin from Royal Oak and Matt Whitmore Lake who set up the play-off, which was also played with Netto-Score. Adrich and Blodgett return to defend.
