Washington Nationals started looking for a new GM with Cubs Carter Hawkins on the list

A big bomb about the Washington National’s GM search has just been released. Bob Nightengale reported that the Nationals started the process of interviewing GM candidates. Nightengale also dropped a name in the mix. That name is Cubs General Manager Carter Hawkins.

Until today, the news had been silent on the GM front. Interim GM Mike Debartolo is clearly a candidate for the job, but we did not know who the other candidates were. Fans and experts took a number of well -considered guesses, but there was no concrete information.

Now we have a real name. Barry Svrluga succeeded the report by saying that Hawkins had not yet been interviewed, but that he is in the mix for the track. That means that an interview will probably happen soon.

So what should National fans know about Carter Hawkins? Well, he has an impressive CV. After playing on Vanderbilt, Hawkins joined the Front Office of Indians as a internal. He quickly impressed and became a full -time scout for the organization. It was claimed that he was the man who found Jose Ramirez, but this is something he denied.

Hawkins worked in the Indian organization for the next decade. He was recognized by many as a fierce and coming director. In 2021 he left Cleveland to become the GM of the Cubs.

However, that GM title is somewhat misleading. In reality, Hawkins is the second that order for President of Baseball Operations Jed Hoyer. However, he is a big voice in the Cubs organization. It is an unknown attitude for Nat fans because Mike Rizzo always had absolute power during his term of office.

So what is Hawkins about? He combines a reconnaissance background with an analytical mind. In Cleveland he learned a lot about the analytical side of things, especially on the pitching side of things. Before he went to Chicago, Hawkins was in charge of the development of the Guardians player.

Cleveland became known for their pitching lab while Hawkins was in charge. That is something that the Nationals need. Although the pitching development of the team has been somewhat improved, it is still not good enough. Hawkins can be the man who has the player development well.

Cubs fans actually have somewhat mixed feelings about Hawkins. Much of this stemes from an interview that he did that brought him into hot water. After a quiet deadline, Hawkins told a reporter That he not only has a responsibility for the 2025 Cubs, but also the 2032 Cubs.

That was not going well with a fan base that is desperate to win. However, the Nationals can use a man who is more process -oriented and long -term driven. Cubs fans who, just like Hawkins, say that he is good at finding value in the margins and will be an effective floor increase for the NATS.

Much of this reminds me a little Mike Elias in Baltimore. Elias has done an excellent job on building the Orioles and making it competitive after they have come a mess. However, he has difficulty making movements to get the core he built over the bump and to win in October.

At the moment the Nationals must find a way to be respectable. First, let’s concentrate on the first time to cover a decent product and think about making everything at a later time. Hawkins is a man who has his mistakes, but his strengths match what the Nationals need. I am excited to see how this process takes place in the coming weeks and months.
