The Golden State Warriors have included Draymond Green in active trade talks ahead of Thursday’s deadline, league sources told ESPN, putting his 14-year tenure with the franchise in doubt.
General manager Mike Dunleavy and owner Joe Lacob remain focused on pursuing a potential deal for Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Green’s name has surfaced in trade frames sent to the Milwaukee Bucks.
To comply with salary matching rules, Golden State would have to either bring in the injured Jimmy Butler III, who is owed $56.8 million next season, or Green, who is expected to make $27.6 million.
Green’s smaller contract, current health and ability to contribute immediately have made him a more attractive trade piece for Milwaukee and other teams.
Although the Phoenix Suns and Detroit Pistons have previously been linked to Green, his affiliation with those rosters remains uncertain.
The power forward played down the speculation when asked about his future on Friday evening.
“I’ve lived here for fourteen years,” he says. “If I get traded, that’s part of the job. I don’t lose sleep over it.”
Although Steve Kerr and Stephen Curry have publicly expressed their desire for Green to retire from the Warriors, the ultimate decisions rest with Lacob and Dunleavy as the organization considers reshaping its roster.
Green, a four-time champion, was central to Golden State’s title runs in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022.
