Holidaymakers who play to France can run the risk of incurring a potentially fatal virus that causes painful body pain and, in severe cases, organ damage, have warned officials.
European health officials have spent an alert on eight local cases of Chikungunya – which is normally spotted in tropical climates such as South America and India.
The outbreak of Chikungunya took place much earlier in the year than typical and this could indicate that the mosquitoes that Chikungunya wear are becoming more and more at home in France thanks to climate change, the warning said.
The authorities have encouraged visitors to take precautions against the distribution of these and other pathogens transferred by mosquitoes.
It comes weeks after British vaccine leaders have suspended a newly approved JAB for the Chikungunya virus to be given to people older than 65, after reports of two deaths and 21 serious reactions with regard to the JAB.
Civil servants also warned that Europe has also seen an increase in dug fever-a other disease transferred by mosquitoes that is historically known as a ‘Breakbone fever’ because of the intensive bone pain with 304 local cases last year.
This is a more than double of the 130 included in 2023 and the 71 recorded in 2022.
West -Nile -Virus – another pathogen spread by invasive mosquitoes and that was detected in British insects for the first time this year – is also increasing.

Last year, 1,436 cases of West -Nijl virus were reported in people in 212 European regions that include 19 countries.
Compared to 713 cases in 123 regions in 2023, according to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).
As such, ECDC officials have warned travelers to take precautions when visiting areas where invasive mosquitoes can be found.
These include ‘applying mosquito -resistant to exposed skin, wearing long sleeves and pants, especially during dawn and dusk when mosquito activity peaks, and sleep under bed nets or in rooms that are screened or air -conditioned if possible’.
French public health officials have also urged guidance for citizens in response to the increasing number of invasive mosquitoes, such as covering or emptying water containers that use the insects to breed.
Similar warnings were also issued in Belgium after environmental scientists reported an increased number of tropical mosquitoes that were caught in falls.
Although most diseases spread by mosquitoes cannot be distributed to person, experts have said that such cases have the potential to spread further outbreaks.
An infected person can travel to another region and be bitten by a mosquito, who can then spread it to the locals and other tourists, creating a series of cases.
