Volvo EX90 upgraded with 800 -volt architecture and new computer only one year after it was launched – Jalopnik

Despite the fact that the 2025 Volvo EX90 went on sale only a year ago, the electric crossover already has a big overhaul. That’s a good sign, right? I am sure that owners of 2025 EX90S will be happy to know that 2026 EX90 buyers Volvo’s new 800-Voltt architecture that the car can be charged faster, and they will be treated to a new core computer that gives them new and improved safety and driver support functions.

Something that the EX90 owners from 2025 will help to sleep at night at night is the fact that they can get the new computer on their car with a easily planned visit to a Volvo workshop. The automaker says that the upgrade to a double Nvidia-Drive AGX orin-based core computer gives the EX90 500 tops (trillion operations per second) of computing power, and although I am not a computer gang, that sounds very impressive. Unfortunately, it is literally impossible to add the 800-Volt architecture to existing 400-Volts EX90s, but a new chic computer is better than nothing.

The new computer includes associated safety warnings for slippery roads, dangers for us and accidents ahead. It also has a new functionality called Emergency Stop Assist that is designed to bring the car to a controlled stop if the driver does not respond to attention or hands-off warnings. Those Sweden and their safety – few do better.

More volts, more pleasure

Although a new computer is fun, the switch from a 400-volt to 800-Volt architecture is an even larger deal. It means that the EX90 can charge even faster than before. The 2025 EX90 can go a fast load of up to 250 kW, enough to go from a load of 10 to 80% in 30 minutes and add up to 111 miles in just 10 minutes. Now Volvo says that it can quickly load at 350 kW, which adds about 155 miles of reach in the same period of 10 minutes. However, Volvo does not state whether this is on the WLTP cycle or not. Strangely enough, the 2026 EX90 holds its CCS charger instead of going with the NACS loader in Tesla-style that wipes the industry, although a Volvo spokesperson tells us that this will come up with an adapter.

The new architecture also gives the EX90 more power and faster gear, although it does not quote exact figures. Part of those added performance will be helped by the fact that the battery and electric motors are lighter, thanks to a reduction in the use of materials, according to Volvo. Currently, the entry-level engine Twin Motor EX90 has 402 hp and 568 pound-foot torque, and the Twin motor performance are given a very sturdy 510 hp and 671 LB-FT. That is enough to push the Big Bruiser in just 4.7 seconds from 0-60 km / h.

To add a little extra flair, the EX90 is now supplied with an electrochrome roof with which you can control the transparency of your panoramic monthly polish due to the simple push of the button. These types of systems are becoming increasingly popular, but it is still cool to see.

Disastrous software Apart from the Volvo EX90, there is a lot for it. If this new computer and improved architecture can help to straighten up some of the errors of the 2025 EX90, then there is still hope.
