Kyiv:
Donald Trump called Vladimir Putin on Thursday to stop the attacks on Ukraine, in a rare reprimand of the Russian leader after Moscow had fired a barrage of missiles and drones on Kyiv, with at least 12 killing in the deadliest attack on the capital in months.
The direct attraction to Putin came after the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zenskyy encouraged his allies to put pressure on Russia, among other things, to stop his invasion.
The Ukrainian leader has demolished a trip to South Africa to tackle the aftermath of the deadly strikes, the latter in a wave of large-scale Russian air strikes that have killed dozens of civilians.
“I am not happy with the Russian strikes on Kiev,” Trump said on social media.
“Not necessary and very bad timing. Vladimir, stop!” he said. “Let’s get the peace agreement for each other!”
The envoy of Trump, Steve Witkoff, is thanks in Russia this week, where he is expected to hold conversations with Putin on a possible deal, his fourth since Trump returned to the White House in January.
Ukraine is battered with air strikes during the three -year invasion of Russia, but deadly strikes on Kiev, better protected by air defenses than other cities, are less common.
The attacks threw more doubts about already loaded our efforts to force Russia and Ukraine to agree to a cease -the fire, where Trump was taken to Zensky this week because he was not prepared to accept the Russian occupation of Crimea, annexed by Moscow in 2014.
“We do everything our partners have proposed, only what our legislation is in contradiction and the Constitution that we cannot do,” said Zensky reporters in South Africa in response to a question about Crimea.
Zensky also wondered if Kyiv’s allies were doing enough to force Putin to agree with a complete and unconditional -the fire.
“I don’t see strong pressure on Russia or new sanction packages against Russian aggression,” said Zensky, and emphasized that Trump had previously warned of repercussions such as Moscow did not agree to pause the fighting.
“The strikes must be stopped immediately and unconditionally,” said Zensky, and on Thursday morning the air raid on Thursday morning “one of the most advanced, most brutal” of the entire war.
Loud explosions sounded over the Ukrainian capital around 1:00 am (2200 GMT) after air raid was sirens over Kiev. Russia fired at least 70 missiles and 145 drones in Ukraine between the end of Wednesday and early Thursday, the most important target Kyiv, said the Ukrainian Air Force.
