Harry Derham will be hoping to continue his strong form this season as he prepares for the Coral Gold Cup meeting in Newbury.
The Upper Lambourn handler secured the biggest win of his career in the Grade Two JCB Triumph Trial Juvenile Hurdle at Cheltenham this weekend with One Horse Town and is keen to keep the momentum going.
Viyanni won two of his three starts after moving to Derham last season and will make his seasonal reappearance in Berkshire in the Gerry Feilden Hurdle and prepare for Tuesday’s meeting on a gallop morning in the course.
Derham said: “Viyanni is a very relaxed horse that I wanted to do a good job on. I needed him to get a hit.
“Last season he had three runs in the youth hurdles and he goes straight to the Gerry Feilden next Saturday. He’s in really good form, I was happy with that. He’ll have a bit of work to do again on Saturday, but we’re looking forward to getting him running.”
He continued: “They went great, which is really nice. This is a really important part of the season ahead. We had our first winner on Saturday, which felt like a big moment, so hopefully now as we go into the Coral Gold Cup meeting we can keep up that form.”
Just Ennemi has been off the track since December last year and will make his first run for Derham at Newbury, live on Sky Sports Racing.
He added: “Only Ennemi will be competing in the John Francome and also the novice handicap pursuit, both on Friday. I’m not sure which one he will ride yet. He has to go back to school before he can run. I was very happy with that (galloping work at Newbury). I didn’t want him to do loads.”
“He hasn’t run for a while so another day out would have done him some good.”
