- Vietnam confirms that cyber attack on National Credit Data Center is being investigated
- CIC says that systems are still operational despite Hacker’s intrusion in the creditor’s database

The National Credit Information Center (CIC) of Vietnam, which is active under the State Bank of Vietnam, has confirmed a cyber attack that may have uncovered sensitive creditors’ information.

Researchers said in a statement: “The first study indicated signs of unauthorized access aimed at stealing personal data, with the extent of the infringement that was still assessed.”

The Vietnam CyberSecurity Emergency Response Center (VNCERT) said that it received a report from CIC on 11 September on the incident.
“The incident did not disrupt the activities or causes damage, and the Credit Information Service system remains fully functional,” CIC said in a letter sent to financial institutions.
The letter, which Reuters says it has seen, also suggested that the attack was possible by shiny hunters, a hacking group that is known for the violation of large companies, including Google, Microsoft and Qantas.
The Vietnam ministerie of cyber security and high-tech crime prevention reportedly dedicated VNCert to work with CIC, the Central Bank and leading cyber security companies such as Viettel, VNPT and NCS.
Evidence is currently being collected and technical guarantees have been activated to protect national financial data systems.
VNCert also warned individuals and organizations not to download or distribute leaked information, and emphasizes that all violations will be confronted with strict legal consequences.
The State Bank of Vietnam did not comment on the infringement, while in a memorandum investment bank JPMorgan told investors that the incident Cyber Security costs for local banks could increase, although it did not expect an immediate impact on the deposit flows.
