Video of the Day: T20 World Cup 2026 – Dilon Heyliger’s breathtaking effort at the fence ends Aiden Markram’s combative knock

Dilon Heyliger produced a moment of pure brilliance in the field with a stunning boundary catch to dismiss South African captain Aiden Markram during Match No. 9 of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on February 9 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. The spectacular effort briefly lifted Canadian spirits in an otherwise dominant performance for the Proteas.

The dismissal came in the 12th over of South Africa’s innings, bowled by Ansh Patel. On the third delivery of the over, Patel bowled a straight ball which Markram powerfully threw long-on to the ball. The shot seemed destined to cross the boundary, but Heyliger, sprinting to the left, timed his jump perfectly and plucked the ball inches inside the ropes.

Heyliger showed excellent awareness and balance and managed to stay clear of the boundary pads despite his forward momentum, completing one of the best catches of the tournament. The catch ended Markram’s superb knock of 59 off 32 balls, an innings that featured 10 fours and one six.

Despite that moment of excellence, South Africa dominated the match. Batting first, the Proteas posted an impressive 213/4 in their 20 overs. Markram led from the front and received solid support from the rest of the batting line-up as South Africa registered their sixth total of over 200 in Men’s T20 World Cup history, the most by any team. For Canada, Ansh Patel was the standout bowler, with impressive figures of 3/31 from his four overs.

In reply, Canada fought hard but fell short, reaching 156/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Opener Navneet Dhaliwal top-scored with a well-crafted 64 and showed composure against a disciplined South African attack. However, the Proteas bowlers continued to tighten the screws during the chase. Right-arm pacer Lungi Ngidi produced a match-winning performance, finishing with figures of 4/31 and dismantling Canada’s middle order.

Ngidi’s impactful spell won him the Player of the Match award as South Africa cruised to a comprehensive 57-run win. The Proteas will next face Afghanistan on February 11 in Ahmedabad, while Canada will look to regroup ahead of their clash against the United Arab Emirates on February 13 in Delhi.
