Chris Paul wants to win before he retires
Chris Paul has made it clear: the NBA season 2024-25 is not just about chasing a long-term championship. It is also about enjoying the trip – maybe more than ever before.
The 12-way All-Star returns to the Los Angeles Clippers, a team that he once led to several play-off performances and a franchise that he still keeps close. After leaving the San Antonio Spurs this summer and weighing retirement, Paul finally chose the clippers because he believes in their ability to fight.
“I am just so enthusiastic about the movements that the team has made this out of season – Brad is coming to the team, Brook Lopez, all the young boys,” said Paul. ‘I spoke to James [Harden]I spoke with Kawhi [Leonard]And I am even more enthusiastic about what I think we have the chance to do. “
Accept bank roller
Although Paul initially hoped to start in his next team, he accepted a bench role -a big shift after two decades as a floor general. But Paul does not go back for leadership responsibilities.
“My role in this team is clearly different from what it has been in the last 20 years, in the NBA,” he explained. “But every day showing up, if I can show some of the boys what it looks like every day to clock and clock out, I am enthusiastic about it.”
At the age of 40, Paul knows that his NBA clock is ending. This could very well be his last season. That is part of the reason why he is approaching a new mindset.
“You all who have seen me play for a while, I’m going to try to do it better and to smile a little more this year,” said Paul during his press conference of Clippers, via ESPN. “I am grateful. I am going to come out every night, whatever it looks like, and try to ensure that I come to the team.”
With the additions of Bradley Beal and Brook Lopez, and a motivated Paul who accepts a new role, the clippers can be a serious title threat – and Paul might be able to find just as joy in the pursuit as the goal.
