Victorian race participant gets major ban for misleading stewards | Just horse racing

A Victorian racing competitor has been handed a 30-month ban after Racing Victoria stewards found she misled investigators and failed to comply with formal directions during an investigation into the presentation of a horse in Hamilton in May.

Stewards filed three charges against Sharon De Grandi following interviews on May 29 and June 11 regarding Sports Choice, a horse trained by Rhonda Mangan.

De Grandi was found to have obstructed the investigation by withholding information relevant to the stewards’ investigations, preventing them from pursuing a potential interrogation. She was also found to have provided false or misleading evidence during the interrogations.

A third charge was laid after De Grandi failed to attend a scheduled investigation on December 8, despite receiving a written instruction requiring her presence at Racing Victoria headquarters on November 26.

After her failure to appear, the stewards followed up in her absence and found all allegations proven.

De Grandi received cumulative sentences totaling 30 months: twelve months for obstructing stewards, six months for giving false or misleading evidence, and a further twelve months for failing to attend the inquiry.

The warning period starts immediately and runs until June 8, 2028, pending any appeal.
