“I am deeply honored to receive the Spingarn medal – a prize whose inheritance reflects the sparkle, sacrifice and determination of generations that released the way for progress,” said Harris.


Former Vice President Kamala Harris was given the highest honor of the NAACP when they presented her the Spingarn Medal from 2025.

The price was given To Harris on 30 September during a special dinner that took place in Los Angeles, California. It was given to her by NAACP president and CEO Derrick Johnson and chairman of the Leon W. Russell board.

“I am deeply honored to receive the Spingarn medal – a prize whose inheritance reflects the sparkle, sacrifice and determination of generations that free up the way for progress,” said Harris. “It is deeply inspiring to be counted among the recipients. That it comes from the NAACP, one of the oldest and greatest champions of freedom and equality of our nation, makes this honor the more meaningful.”

Vice President Harris joins other prominent winners of the Spingarn Medal, including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Maya Angelou and Web du Bois. The medal is given to an individual for their contributions to justice, fairness and public services.

“It is a true privilege to recognize Vice President Kamala Harris as this year’s Spingarn Medal,” said Derrick Johnson, president and CEO of NAACP. “Her groundbreaking leadership and unwavering dedication to justice embody the essence of this honor. If the first woman and the first black American serves as a vice president, her legacy of breaking barriers and defending fairness generations will inspire.”

The 49th Vice President of the United States recently issued Her newest book, ‘107 Days’, on September 23. This is Harris’s first book since she has released ‘The Truths We Hold: An American Journey. ” She also wrote a children’s book in the same year: ‘Superheroes are everywhere. ” She wrote her very first book 10 years before: “Smart on Crime.”

She was recently with her Alma Mater, Howard University, last month for an unannounced stop at her Alma Mater, Howard University, as part of her 18-City book tour.
