“We made a deal with Gus where I would care for his mares and their foals for a year and we would share the foal proceeds from yearling sales so I could keep the mares for breeding,” said Dr. Kath McIntosh, the director of Llowalong Farms.
One of the mares was Wind Cries Maori matron All Finesse, the dam of five winners including former trotting queen and three-time Vicbred champion Claudys Princess and Cup class trotter Claudys Prince.
‘The foal she had with her at the time was a colt by Centurion ATM,’ Kath said.
The foal has never been played.
Two years later, All Finesse, on the cover of the stallion Pastor Stephen of the first season of Llowalong Farms, produced Hallebesofine.
The filly sold for a modest $12,000 to Western District trainers Daryl Crone and Tina Ridis at the 2024 Nutrien Equine Melbourne Yearling Sale.
Hallebesofine has proven to be a model of consistency during her short career, winning twice with six placings from 11 starts. She placed in both the $75,000 Nutrien Equine Classic and the Graeme Lang Aldebaran Park Trotting Mile.
“She just keeps getting better and better. The whole breed takes time to mature,” McIntosh said.
All told, All Finesse’s descendants have won 47 races and collected nearly $650,000 in combined wagers.
