The Calgary Flames will have plenty of offers for Rasmus Andersson

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman was on Sirius XM NHL Network Radio Morning Skate with Gord Stellick and Scott Laughlin. He was asked about him Rasmus Andersson and the Vegas Golden Knights, given the space they have now Alex Pietrangelo about the LTIR at the end of the season.

NHLRumors.com Transcripts

Scott Laughlin: “Friedge, the thing we’re doing is okay, so Alex Piertrangelo is expected to be closed. So they’ve got all this money to play with here, and they’re going to do the (Jack) Eichel expansion, as you say, that’s going to come out here in the very near future. Gord and I have talked about it, obviously Rasmus Andersson has been making it known for months and months that Vegas is where he wants to be.”

NHL rumours: Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets and will stars take fewer?

Elliotte Friedman: “It’s not just there. It’s not just Vegas.”

Laughlin: “Okay, tell us if there are any other teams that could enter the Rasmus Andersson Sweepstakes.”

Friedman: “I think there are two. Andersson came out and I know Vegas did their best to get him last year, and so did LA, but I think he vetoed a trade to LA. And I think one of the problems with Vegas was that the Golden Knights and the Flames just couldn’t get a deal that was satisfactory to both of them. So that didn’t happen.”

I don’t think Rasmus Andersson has put himself in a box where he would go now. I think he will let Calgary make the best trade. Then, as he is in the final year of his contract, he can decide where he wants to go in the long term. I think this is a situation this year where, if Calgary decides they want to move him, there will be a lot of contenders who will be interested in him as a player. So we’ll see.

NHL Rumors: Will Rasmus Andersson re-sign with the Calgary Flames

But as far as I know, Vegas is the first team to field Pietrangelo under these new rules. Like some of these other guys, like Ryan Ellisas everyone knew they wouldn’t play, but Pietrangelo’s media conference this year left some doubt as to whether he was out for the entire year.

Well, that’s over now. He’s out all year and he’s been called out, including the playoffs. And yes, they will have the pet room, and so we’ll see what they do with it.
