NHL Rumors: St. Louis Blues, Minnesota Wild and the Vancouver Canucks
The Vancouver Canucks needed an offer to get them to say yes. They got that with the Wild sending it Marco RossiLiam Ohgren, Zeev Buium and a first-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft for the Canucks. There is no wage retention.
General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the #Canucks have acquired forwards Marco Rossi and Liam Öhgren, defenseman Zeev Buium and a first-round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for defenseman Quinn Hughes.

Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford said in a press release, “We would like to thank Quinn for his time with the Vancouver Canucks. Quinn is a great person, a great player and one of the greatest Canucks of all time. With the circumstances surrounding JT and now Quinn, we are fortunate to be able to acquire these very good young players from Minnesota.”
NHL Rumors: Ottawa Senators and Vancouver Canucks
Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin said in a news release: “Like Jim, I would also like to thank Quinn for everything he did in Vancouver. Quinn played hard, led by example and did a lot of good things for the Canucks. Trading away a player of this caliber is never an easy or easy decision to make, but it was one we had to do to make our team better.”

Remember, the Vancouver Canucks sent a memo to 31 other teams saying their veterans were available. Not to mention, Rutherford said Quinn Hughes wants to play with his brothers. However, the Canucks got the best possible package they could. There had to be four pieces. But it revolved around a center.
NHL Rumors: The latest on Quinn Hughes and who are potential suitors?
That’s what the Canucks got in Marco Rossi, who they’ve wanted since the summer. Now they get a young, up-and-coming defender in Buium. Not to mention, Öhgren is going to be a good player too. Once again, Vancouver is gambling on potential and trading away a guy they knew was special.
The Minnesota Wild are getting the second-best defenseman in the NHL. Well, Quinn Hughes, Miro HeiskanenAnd Kale Makar are all in the same division.
Acquired by MIN, Quinn Hughes is a superstar attacking defender. An exceptional skater, passer and puck handler who he relies on to run his team’s offense while getting there defensively. #MNWild pic.twitter.com/k3j7Wn08Fp

The Minnesota Wild are going all out. General Manager Bill Gurien wants to win and has the space to make this deal happen. There is always one team that comes out of nowhere and can make deals like this. Bill Guerin wouldn’t have done his job if he hadn’t called and laid the groundwork.
The Minnesota Wild are the only team that can extend Quinn Hughes for eight years. He is eligible for an extension from July 1.
The #MNWild can’t extend Quinn Hughes until July 1, but they have a great tool in their back pocket to make it happen:
They will be the only team that can sign him to an eight-year contract with a front-loaded structure including unlimited signing bonuses before the CBA rules change on September 15.

Now the Vancouver saga is over for Quinn Hughes. This didn’t have to happen, but it was for the best that it did.
Don’t blame Quinn Hughes.
The Canucks got the best player in franchise history in the draft and never built winning teams around him.
He wanted to win here, but it just wasn’t going to happen and now he’s gone.
