Vale: Frits Klein (NED) < World ParaVolley

Last Friday, December 12, 2025, we received the sad news that Frits Klein passed away.

Frits Klein was well known in the national and international sitting volleyball community. In various roles, Frits was a champion of sitting volleyball at home and abroad, where he mainly gained recognition as a sitting volleyball referee.

In the summer of 1988, he received the WOVD badge as an international referee, which allowed him to participate in several major sitting volleyball tournaments such as the World Championships in Las Vegas (1989), Assen (1990), Bottrop (1994) and the Barcelona Paralympic Games (1992).

As a competition manager, he was active at the World Championships in Theran (1998), Cairo (2002) and the Paralympic Games in Atlanta (1996) and Sydney (2000).

Frits Klein was also active in sitting volleyball in Europe in various roles from the 1980s to 2007 and has attended many tournaments in various countries.

In addition to his activities in the field of sitting volleyball and standing volleyball, he was also active in various referee committees. Frits Klein was also the first webmaster of the WOVD (now World Paravolley) from 1987 to 2004.

In the years that followed, Frits Klein was still a regular spectator at sitting volleyball.

We wish the family and friends a lot of strength during this time.
