Media presenter Alison ‘Ali’ Drower, under the Pioneers for Women in Motorsport in Australia, died.
Media presenter Alison ‘Ali’ Drower, best known for Motorsports presentation, died after a battle with cancer.
She died on Sunday, surrounded by loved ones in the Canberra Hospital.
Drower’s career included decades, worked in Motorsport next to Greg Rest for ten motorsport on RPM as well as broadcasts for Supercars.
She was known for her role alongside Doug Mulray in Triple M and was also the early face of MTV Australia next to Richard Wilkins.
Later she became the regional news director for Southern Cross Austereo and recently worked with Arn, where she was in favor of the upcoming talent.
“Ali Drower was a giant of the Australian news industry,” said head of news and information from Australian Radio Network (Arn), Fiona Ellis-Jones.
“She had a rare mix of curiosity, strategic insight and sharp intellect that made her one of the most remarkable spirits in news.
“Ali could look at every challenge and immediately see the opportunities.
“Her legacy lives on in the hundreds of journalists she guided and the leaders she inspired.
“More than whatever, Ali was a mother and a woman.”
She is also the mother of Supercars Racer Zach Bates and wife of the former Australian rally driver Rick Bates.
Greg Rust said that Drower was “among the pioneers for women in motorsport in Australia”.
“As a lead and contains a reporter for RPMShe brought a balance that was needed outside the hardcore love that the rest of us had, “he said.
“Ali injected laughed and a feeling of pleasure that helped to expose the competitors and see more of their wonderful personalities.
“She once blinded Neil Crompton with a brutal line over a tassie map while covering the Targa Tasmania rally.
“Crompo is such a professional, I only heard him laugh so loudly a few times in my career (in the air). She got him that day.
“Ali had a long -term career in the media (a company that can be a brutal roller coaster ride) because of her talent and dedication.
“She should still be here with that infectious smile and a liveliness that the rest of us was lucky to drink in.
“Go well at Bathurst, Zach. She was so proud of your size! God, I hate cancer.”
