Most recently, Albrecht served as vice president of Major League Soccer’s MLS GO, where he was “responsible for the launch of MLS’s foundational youth engagement platform,” according to a press release from the federation.
“USA Gymnastics provides a tremendous opportunity to further elevate one of the most iconic sports in American culture,” said Albrecht. “It is an honor to lead this organization into its next chapter – driving growth that promotes athlete success, strengthens our community and builds on the culture of safety and well-being that has defined the past six years. I look forward to working with the board, staff and key stakeholders to continue to improve the sport at every level.”
Leung, a former U.S. national team member and University of Michigan gymnast, had overseen a transformative phase in the federation’s history after being appointed in March 2019 as they worked to rebuild trust following Larry Nassar’s abuse scandal.
“The opportunity to lead USA Gymnastics has been the honor and privilege of my life,” Leung said this in the announcement of her departure. “Thanks to the dedication of the entire gymnastics community, we are now in an incredible position as we turn our attention to the Olympic Games in LA.”
Leung’s major achievements during her six-year term include reaching a settlement with the hundreds of abuse victims, pulling the federation out of bankruptcy and bringing commercial sponsors back into the fold.
At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the American women took the team gold medal, while the men finished third – the only federation that ends up on both stages in artistic gymnastics.
