In a Grand Slam semi-final on line-up with Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, Felix Auger-Aliassy is the One Outsider.

If the underdog wants to expand its run all the way to the title competition, he will have to get a huge upset of the world no. 1 on Friday evening.

Surprisingly, Auger-Aliassime actually leads his head-to-head series against Sinner 2-1. Both victories of the Canadian are in 2022 – well before his opponent became the current version of himself. Auger-Aliassy dominated on the red clay of Madrid (6-1, 6-2) and on the out-hard courts of Cincinnati (2-6, 7-6 (1), 6-1). They recently faced each other in Cincinnati earlier this summer, where the story could not have been different. Sinner Rolde 6-0, 6-2.

The 24-year-old Italian has simply been the best player in the world that goes back to the fall of 2023. He could lose the highest ranking if he somehow falls to Auger-Aliassy or if Alcaraz cancels the trophy, but that is only because Sinner was suspended for three months in the direction of 2025. When he was on the field, he is the best. That has certainly been the case so far this fourteen days, because Sinner was advanced while he only dropped one set – in the third round against Denis Shapovalov. Since that wake-up call, the top seeds Alexander Bublik, 6-1, 6-1, 6-1 and Lorenzo Musetti 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 has destroyed.

Auger-Aliassime has also been excellent in New York, and in his case it has come out of nowhere. The 25-year-old had compiled a 13-16 record in his previous 29 games that went back to the Dubai final at the beginning of March. He suddenly picked up the pace to beat Bill Harris, Roman Safiullin, Alexander Zverev, Andrey Rublev and Alex de Minaur.

Unfortunately for Auger-Aliassime he needed four hours and 10 minutes to overcome the Minaur 4-6, 7-6 (7), 7-5, 7-6 (4) on Wednesday. Now he has to take action again to face the best player in the world who just hit him 6-0, 6-2? Yes, that is not a tempting proposition. Slower circumstances at night will also not help the world no. 27, because it will be difficult to get through top seeds and avoid long rallies.

It has been a great run for Auger-Aliassime, but this sets up perfectly for Sinner.
