NPCI International Payments LTD, in collaboration with Qatar National Bank, has made the acceptance possible of QR-code-based Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in Qatar via Point-of-Sale terminals for sellers obtained by QNB and driven by the payment request of networks.
This step will enable Indian travelers to seamless UPI payments come up with large tourist attractions and Qatar Duty Free Outlets, the first trader to go live on UPI, said National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) in a statement.
Indians are the second largest group of international visitors to Qatar, it said, adding that this partnership will help them make real-time transactions throughout the country, which means that the need to wear cash and eliminate currency exchange floors.
The acceptance of UPI in Qatar promotes interoperability and expands the global reach of UPI, said it.
Moreover, it is expected that the retail and tourist sectors of Qatar will benefit, because the acceptance of UPI will increase the transaction volumes of sellers obtained by QNB, it said.
This will help them to scale up their company, while offering convenience to customers, said it.
“We strive to improve the acceptance of UPI worldwide and create a real interoperable worldwide payment network. The collaboration with QNB is a step in the direction of this trip,” said NPCI International MD and CEO Ritesh Shukla.
NPCI International is a subsidiary of NPCI.
It will help millions of Indian travelers to make seamless, secure digital transactions and reduce their dependence on cash, he said.
