A woman from Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj has complainted a police against a man who reportedly misled her by changing his identity, and later attacked her and blackmailed to convert to another religion.
The 25-year-old woman, who currently lived in the Chinhat area of Luckknow, had registered at the Hotel Management College at BBD University in 2023. After the death of her father and because of financial deprivation, she was forced to stop in August 2024 and started a small food store to support herself.
It was in this store that she met a man who introduced herself as “Raj” from Barabanki. After a while the two friends and the man started to put her under pressure to marry him. Around Diwali 2024, during a visit to Bada Imambara, the woman discovered that the real name of the man Mohammad was furqan and that he had hidden his identity from the beginning.
According to the complaint, the accused then tried to force the woman to convert to Islam. When she refused, he would resort to physical abuse, strangulation and threatened threats to kill her. The woman also stated that Furqan threatened to release obscene photos of her online.
On August 7, the accused reportedly forced her rented accommodation and further threats issued. Later, on August 11, while she was gone, he reportedly broke the end of her room and RS 25,000 in cash stable.
DCP East Zone Shasank Singh confirmed that a case has been registered at the Chinhat police station and that an investigation is underway.
