An Australian university apologized after reports that some students have received E -mails false who claimed that they had been removed from their courses or had withdrew their qualifications.
The current and former students of Western Sydney University (WSU) posted this week on the emails on social media, where some say that their decades of old degrees were supposedly withdrawn.
Other students said they felt “super stressed” by the incident and contact the University for Support.
The university said that it sincerely apologized for the concern caused.
“Western Sydney University is aware of fraudulent e -mails sent to students and graduates, whereby some falsely claim that they have been excluded from the university or that their qualifications have been withdrawn,” said a WSU spokesperson in a statement to SBS.

“These e -mails are not legitimate and are not published by the university.”

A second apparent hacking

After the first flurry of E -mails sent by a fake address, a second alleged hack took place on Monday evening, when a massive e -mail was sent to the WSU community.
This massive e -mail, which comes from the Permits account of the university, seems to have been sent by a hacker who claims that they have used the cyber security of the university.
“This is a striking indication of the fundamental weaknesses of security that still exist within the WSU systems,” is the E -mail.
“What is more worrying is that these vulnerabilities are easily used with just a few clicks, and anyone with a basic knowledge of web development can gain access to and manipulating sensitive information.”

The e -mail claims that WSU has been aware of the “weakness” in its cyber security since 2017, but “neglected to take meaningful action”.

The WSU spokesperson said that the university reported the incident to the NSW police.
“Because this is part of an ongoing police investigation, we cannot currently give any further comments.”
A user on Reddit, who claims to have been hit by the infringement, said they had obtained their diploma more than ten years ago.
“I received the same e -mail, even though I graduated 15 years ago. I think they will not purify personal records after 7 years.”
Another recipient of the E -mail wrote online about their uncertainty.
“I just had a full panic attack and woke up my mother, who read and pointed to all the reasons why she thinks it’s a scam … What are we doing? Does Wsu let you know or just leave it?”
