Mason Greenwood played for Marseille as he scored twice in a 3-2 comeback win over Union Saint-Gilloise to boost their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League knockouts.
The Belgian side, whose own play-off hopes were dealt a blow, claimed a surprise lead before Roberto De Zerbi’s team turned things around.
Anan Khalaili opened the scoring after just five minutes with a lovely low drive after cutting in from the right and picking out the bottom right corner.
However, Marseille hit back just ten minutes later when Igor Paixao grabbed the rebound from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s saved shot and fired it into the roof of the net.
Greenwood grabbed the first of his double four minutes before half-time, drilling his low effort past Kjell Scherpen, who got a hand to the ball but could not prevent it from hitting the net.
In the 58th minute, Greenwood seemingly put the game out of sight for Marseille. He raced behind him before turning his defender and firing a lovely strike into the bottom left corner.
However, Union SG refused to back down, with Khalaili getting his second of the match after receiving a loose clearance, but their battle fizzled out.
Kevin Mac Allister and Promise David both had late goals disallowed for offside, before Geronimo Rulli made a stunning save in the dying seconds to keep out the latter’s header.
Elsewhere, Monaco moved up to 18th place after a 1-0 win over Galatasaray thanks to Folrain Balogun’s penalty in the 68th minute.

Debriefing the data: Greenwood provides a much-needed cushion
At one point Marseille looked to be in cruise control but a frantic finish saw them hold firm as Union SG fought to try and earn a point.
Greenwood has scored 35 goals in all competitions over the past two seasons, with only Ousmane Dembele (38) scoring more.
And he was Marseille’s driving force, leading the way with four shots worth 0.59 expected goals (xG), while Marseille as a team scored just 1.48.
