Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan this week criticized the “appalling behaviour” of teenagers in Mordialloc, a beachside suburb in Melbourne’s south-east, where hundreds of teenagers appeared to burst into a supermarket and start a brawl.
“What we have seen on the beach and in the community over the past few days was simply disgraceful behavior. It was disrespectful, childish and at times violent,” she said Friday.
On Wednesday and Thursday, a large group of teenagers swarmed a local supermarket and Mordialloc Pier, causing public disorder.
On Wednesday, footage showed nearly 200 teenagers entering a Woolworths, running through the aisles, taking products from the shelves and stealing them.
The public order team, police air force and uniformed members attended the scene and tracked the large group to the nearby Mordialloc pier.

Officers were confronted with shouting, pushing and throwing bottles. Police responded with paprika spray to disperse the crowd.

A 15-year-old boy from Greater Dandenong, who has since been released, was arrested and questioned by police. Three others were spoken to at the scene.
Victorian Deputy Police Commissioner Bob Hill branded the group a “snot gang” causing “chaos”.
“Mark my words: any child offender who was observed, recorded on CCTV, recorded on social media or our body-worn camera will be spoken to by Victoria Police,” he said on Thursday.

Detectives from Moorabbin’s Crime Investigation Unit are also investigating whether the incident was pre-organised on social media.

According to police, in an unrelated incident, a 13-year-old girl was allegedly attacked by two women near a toilet block near Mordialloc Pier, with a man in his 50s intervening to stop the attack.

The victim suffered minor injuries and police said she was shocked by the attack.
Reports came in on Thursday of a large group of young people in the area. A number of police units were present and most of the crowd moved on.
However, after receiving reports that two people had been attacked near Mordialloc Pier, police responded and dispersed the crowd.
Police will increase their presence in the community and continue to patrol Mordialloc and surrounding areas.

Allan said: “We all need to send a clear message, whether you are a parent or a Prime Minister, a teacher or a member of the community, that this is simply unacceptable.”

Crime incidents are reported

A recent report from Victoria’s Crime Statistics Agency shows the number of criminal incidents reported by Victoria Police increased by 12.3 per cent to 483,313 in the period to September 30, 2025.
Property and deception crimes were the highest at 42,628. While the number of crimes against a person increased by more than 5,510 in the same period.

The number of violations amounted to 640,860, an increase of 10.8 percent compared to 578,189 the year before.

The number of reports of personal victims and reports of alleged perpetrators and family incidents have all increased.
Victorian Opposition Leader Jess Wilson said Allan “needs to ask yourself, ‘are you doing enough to keep people here in Victoria safe?'”
In an effort to reduce crime, the Allan government tightened bail laws in March and recently announced laws targeting juvenile offenders.
