UFC Vancouver turned out to be a wonderful evening full of setbacks from top to bottom. In the main event, middleweight standout Brendan Allen defied the enormous odds placed before him to defeat former two-division champion Reinier de Ridder.
Using a wrestling, heavy approach, “All In” smothered the Dutchman with his Jiu-Jitsu and bombarded him with ground-and-pound on his way to De Ridder’s corner, where he was forced to throw in the towel before the fifth round began.
Before that, hometown hero Mike Malott scored a unanimous victory over the much more experienced Kevin Holland. Despite an accidental low blow that appeared to weaken the American, Malott still managed to weather the storm in the first round to take victory on the scorecards.
