UFC Vancouver Bonus Report: Charles Jourdain is one of four fighters to take home $50,000 | BJPenn.com

The Octagon returned to Canada tonight for the UFC Vancouver event and four fighters ended up taking home performance bonuses.

The event was headlined by a high-stakes middleweight bout, pitting Reinier de Ridder against Brendan Allen. The fight turned out to be a coming out party for the gambling underdog in Allen. After enduring a brutal opening round that saw De Ridder choke him out and throw away multiple submission attempts, ‘All In’ came back with a vengeance in round two. The American managed to take top position after scoring a sweep and started bombarding ‘RDR’ with some heavy ground and pound. That trend continued in rounds three and four and meant that De Ridder could hardly get on his stool after twenty minutes of action. After seeing the condition of their fighter, the corner of ‘RDR’ decided to throw in the towel and let their man see another day.

UFC Vancouver co-headlined a highly anticipated welterweight bout pitting Kevin Holland against hometown favorite Mike Malott. The fight didn’t result in the fan-friendly fight most were hoping to see. After landing a knockdown midway through the opening round, Holland suffered a pair of low-blow mistakes that seemingly turned the tide in the fight. After nearly not making it out of the second round, Holland opted to continue on his own to stay out of the point and was smothered by Mike Malott throughout the second and third rounds. It was a big win for Malott, but one that will certainly be seen as controversial due to the unpunished fouls.

After tonight’s conclusion eventUFC officials announced at the post-fight press conference that four fighters would take home performance bonuses.

Fight of the Night: Lightweight fighters Drew Dober and Kyle Prepolec each earned $50,000 for their exciting war during tonight’s preliminary round of UFC Vancouver. Dober ultimately won the match via TKO after initially hurting the Canadian with a low blow.

Performance of the evening: Charles Jourdain earned an additional $50,000 for his first-round win over Davey Grant. ‘Air’ used a flying knee to set up the guillotine choke that ended the fight (see that here).

Performance of the evening: Aori Qileng earned an additional $50,000 for his 21-second victory over Cody Gibson (see that here).
