Former Bantam weight champion Aljamain Sterling (25-5) looked sharp to featherweight, sailing to a crooked unanimous decision about Brian Ortega (16-5, 1 AD). All three judges scored the fight 50-45 in favor of Sterling.
“Funk Master” surpasses Ortega 124-55 in important strikes, mixed in Takedowns late, and checked the action from start to finish. Ortega, who missed the weight poorly and forced the fight in a catch of 153 pounds, never found his rhythm and was clearly surpassed over five rounds.
“I think I did enough in this game,” said Sterling after the fight. “Volkanovski is the man, but I want another shot at the title.”
