UFC Paris: Mauricio Ruffy sees BSD as part of Path to Title Shot

Mauricio Ruffy van Brazil goes to enemy territory for the UFC Paris of this Saturday, where he takes it against the hometown hunter in his own Benoit Saint-Denis of France.

The lightweight combination is a brightly expected, with BSD with some of the best at 155 pounds. Ruffy (12-1), who represents the Vechtnerds, sees a distinction between the two hunters.

“I see Benoit as a very aggressive man. Even in the way he speaks, as he carries himself, he is a very intense and aggressive man,” said Ruffy during this week’s UFC Paris Media Day. “And I am a man who is very calculated, and a very accurate man who takes him time to find the right photos.”

“I see a knockout, but I am very excited and ready to go.”

And that is the game plan, Ruffy added later, while he recognizes it in MMA, things do not always work as planned.

“MMA is a brutal sport. Those small gloves, when it lands, can eliminate someone. It is not always that the best man wins in MMA, you can’t control everything. But I go in and do my best and do my best, I go against Benoit and hopefully the knockout.”

If he gained the victory over Saint-Denis, who fought against Dustin Poirier and Renato Moicano before their respective title shots, Mauricio Ruffy strives for the top five. In fact, his team selected BSD to a title shot that he offers because of the potential path.

“I visualized my victory a lot, and I think that after I have defeated him, I want to go to a top five -year -old. The last two boys he fought were lucky to fight for the title,” Ruffy noted. After discussing it with his coaches, “we decided that Benoit was the right way to reach the title.”
