UFC Mexico Post-Event Facts: Seasoned and exciting lightweight is thriving on the main card

UFC Mexico proved to be another dazzling show for the world leader in mixed martial arts, with more than a few native heroes getting the chance to shine on the big stage.

In the headline bout of UFC Mexico City, Lone’er Kavanagh silenced the doubters by defeating former flyweight champion Brandon Moreno in what turned out to be a near-great performance.

In the co-main event, David Martinez had to dig deep within himself to earn a close unanimous decision win over tough bantamweight Marlon Vera.

Intriguing tidbits after the main card event

Santiago Luna final Angel Pacheco

His unanimous decision victory over Pacheco at UFC Mexico City ended his 100% finishing streak. It was the first time any of his fights hit the scorecards since his last bout as an amateur all the way back in 2023. He is now 2-0 in the UFC since making his debut last September.

His loss to Cháirez marked his sixth by decision. He has won just once since joining the UFC in January 2024. He is now 1-3 in his last four games.

His win over Zellhuber at UFC Mexico City marked his 12th by knockout. As a professional he has now won 33 times. The combined records of his last four opponents sit at a whopping 56-8.

David Martinez

His victory over Vera marked his second straight victory over a ranked bantamweight competitor. As a professional, he has now won by decision four times. He has outmatched every opponent he has experienced in the UFC and the Contender Series, with a remarkable defense rate of 69%.

His loss to Martínez marked his fourth straight setback, making it his twelfth by decision. He has had the reach advantage in his last three trips to the Octagon. His UFC record now stands at 15-11.
