The fight card was headlined by a key middleweight bout pitting former division champion Sean Strickland against Anthony Hernandez. The fight proved to be a return to glory for the promotion’s former middleweight champion, Sean Strickland. The 34-year-old was able to use his snapping left jab to overwhelm and frustrate Hernandez through the first two rounds. Then in round three, Strickland landed a crushing knee to the body that clearly hurt ‘Fluffy’. Sean smelled blood and charged in with a flurry of punches that led to Anthony going down and the eventual referee stopping (see that here). It was a great performance and after the win, Stickland went on to shout out current 185-pound titleholder Khamzat Chimaev.
UFC Houston co-headlined a welterweight bout between Geoff Neal and Uros Medic. The fight resulted in a spectacular first-round knockout victory for Medic. ‘The Doctor’ floored Neal with a beautiful left hook that immediately ended the match.
After tonight’s conclusion eventUFC officials announced at the post-fight press conference that 4 fighters would take home performance bonuses.
