Former UFC champion Aljamain Sterling ruffled the feathers of many fans with a bizarre take on UFC 321.
The long-awaited return of UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall was brought to an abrupt halt against Ciryl Gane last Saturday at UFC 321. Just minutes into the fight, an accidental double eye poke from Gane left Aspinall unable to continue competing, resulting in a no contest.
Since UFC 321, Aspinall has come under fire from fellow fighters, pundits and fans for not being able to continue fighting Gane. Several people have questioned whether Aspinall’s eye injury was serious enough to warrant a no contest.
Add former UFC champion Aljamain Sterling to the mix, who experienced a similar incident earlier in his career.
Aljamain Sterling casts doubt on severity of Tom Aspinall’s eye injury that forced cancellation of UFC 321 headliner
In a recent video uploaded to his YouTube channel, Sterling responded to the abrupt conclusion of the UFC 321 main event.
“Was he milking it? Was he using his best Aljamain Sterling acting chops? I know y’all think I’m on Tommy’s side, but I’m not. I have so many questions,” Sterling began on Aspinall.
“Tom Aspinall was losing that fight. The guy immediately says, ‘I can’t see it!’. Tommy is really crazy. You can’t say I can’t see it. We all know that’s the nail in the coffin of every fight, you can’t say that. So if you really want to have five minutes to try to recover and stay in the fight, you can’t use those words…
“I was illegally kneeled, shot in the head and destroyed on social media for a year and a half,” Sterling continued. “Watching the fight, there’s something to be said that the fight was starting to get tough. I wonder…did that really hurt as much as you said?”

“Pot is called Kettle black!” one fan wrote further X.
“He must be trolling,” said another,
“I have always defended Aljo, just like I defend Tom. Absolutely insane for him to say this.”
“So you’re saying he brought the famous Aljo.”
“I don’t think this is the guy to comment on the fact that he can continue in a fight.”
“I see Aljo getting some backlash for this…”
“Every point he makes against Tom is just as easily used against him in his fight against Yan [LAUGHS].”
