With UFC 318 behind us it is time to look out at the next UFC Pay-per-View Fight Card, UFC 319. The main event of that card has been official for some time. In that match, UFC Middenweight wants to defend his 185-pound Kroon champion Dric Du Plessis against Khamzat Chimaev. On Saturday, during the UFC 318 broadcast, the promotion officially announced the rest of the UFC 319 head card, with one striking exception: the UFC 319 Co-Main event will not be booked.
UFC 319 takes place on August 16 in the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. The UFC has not had a fight card in Chicago since 2019.

Dricus du Plessis (23-2) joined the UFC in October 2020 as a 26-year-old with a 14-2 record. Before he came to the UFC, Du Plessis had won titles with KSW and EFC. He made his debut against Markus Perez on the main map of a UFC Fight Night event in Abu Dhabi. Du Plessis played Perez in the first round. He followed that victory with a July 2021 “Performance of the Night” Ko -victory of Trevin Giles.
Those two victories gave him a shot against the ranked experienced Brad Tavares. Du Plessis won that scrap through a decision. The victory placed him in the top 15 of the division. An entry victory of December 2022 on Darren until Du Persis moved to no. 10 in the division. A TKO victory on the number 5 arranged Derek Brunson followed.
Du Plessis, who worked on the ranking, stood for a tough test in his next outing when he met the number 2 Robert Whittaker at UFC 290. Du Plessis continued, taking the former UFC champion in the UFC middleweight title Eliminator and another “performance of the Night” Bonus.
More important than the bonus was that the title received Shot du Plessis for that victory. He faced Sean Strickland in January and took the title of Strickland in a bonus -winning scrap “Fight of the Night”
In his first title Defense, Du Plessis obtained an entry from August 2024 to former UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya.
Du Plessis recently faced Strickland in a rematch on UFC 312 at the beginning of February this year. Du Plessis won that match through a unanimous decision.
I wrote about the champion after that fight: “Dricus du Plessis looked much more controlled and less reckless on UFC 312 than in many of his previous fights. He mixed his striking techniques and goals against Sean Strickland, landed the more powerful strokes and did not put himself in too many awkward positions.
“Du Plessis did it much better in his UFC 312 Rematch against Strickland when the attack of his enemy closes the attack of his enemy 173 of 408 important strikes. While in the Rematch Strickland, strikes held up to 128 Land Strikes on 263 attempts of 38 percentage. 137 of 377 POGINGEN. 137 of 354 Pogingen.

Chimaev (14-0) is the No. 3 Jager in the Official UFC ranking list of middleweight. The 30-year-old made his UFC debut in July 2020 with an entry in the second round on John Phillips. He followed that victory with a first round of TKO at Rhys McKEE 10 days later, brokeing the UFC review for the fastest turnaround between UFC victories in modern times. Then, in September, Chimaev Gerald Meerschaert played.
Then things were slowing down for Chimaev. He was booked to face Leon Edwards in December 2020, but that matchup never arose despite several attempts to make the fight happen. The reason behind the many cancellations of Edwards vs. Chimaev was Covid-19.
When Chimaev finally returned to the Octagon in October 2021, he made a short work by Li Jingliang and scored an entry at 3:16 of round 1.
In his next fight, Chimaev went the distance for the first time in his career and took a victory over Gilbert Burns. He followed that with an entry about Kevin Holland.
A break of more than a year followed that victory. The next outing of Chimaev was a matchup in October 2023 against Kamaru Usman, a fight that Chimaev won through a decision.
A year later, Chimaev made a short work by Robert Whittaker and defeated the ex-PUC Middleweight Champion through entry (Face Crank) in the first round of their UFC 308 scrap.
