Manchester United failed to make it five wins out of five on Tuesday as they escaped the London Stadium with a point against West Ham United.
United struggled with rhythm, with the players appearing ill-equipped to deal with the pressure that comes with playing twice a week.
The forwards, including summer signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, disappointed and it took a final equalizer from Benjamin Sesko to spare the head coach’s blushes.
A big mistake from Luke Shaw allowed the Hammers to take the lead, and how the Englishman has lasted so long at the club is truly a mystery.
Luke Shaw as a left back simply cannot be trusted
He tends to only perform when his contract is about to expire, or when the World Cup or European Championship is around the corner.
The Englishman is currently starting due to a lack of alternatives after Patrick Dorgu’s injury. Both Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui are much more skilled on the right.
The only other senior left back available for Carrick is Tyrell Malacia. The Dutchman was about to leave for Besiktas in January, but Jason Wilcox pulled the plug.
Having suffered multiple knee injuries, the 26-year-old has been unable to start games for the Red Devils and looks set to leave the club once his contract expires in the summer.
Malacia’s contract expires in the summer
Interest had been reported from several European quarters, but Sports tree have now claimed that Sunderland are in pole position to land the former Feyenoord CEO.
They are ready to offer the Dutch international a regular starting spot in order to face the competition from Leeds United.
“Sunderland are ready to launch a summer raid for Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia, and the Black Cats believe they can get him for nothing, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
“The Premier League returnees have placed the Dutch full-back high on their transfer shortlist after a fine start in the top flight.
Sunderland offers him a perfect opportunity
“And with Malacia’s contract at Old Trafford nearing expiry, Sunderland chiefs are confident that the 26-year-old, once rated among Europe’s most exciting young defenders, represents one of the bargain opportunities of the next transfer window when it reopens on June 16.
“Insiders say Sunderland are ‘working hard behind the scenes’ and are ready to offer Malacia a key first-team role, something he struggled to secure at Manchester United after a nightmare of injuries.
“Our sources understand that Leeds United and several European clubs are also closely monitoring the situation. But Sunderland believes the promise of regular Premier League football and the chance to rebuild his career as a guaranteed starter could give them an edge in the race for his signature.”
United won’t mind as Harry Amass and Diego Leon are waiting in the wings to take over once Tyrell Malacia leaves.
