Police are investigating the death of a young boy after he was brutally mauled by two Rottweiler dogs.
Kaimir Jones, two, was brutally attacked by two Rottweilers while in the care of an unlicensed daycare center in Valdosta, Georgia, United States.
The tragic incident occurred when Kaimir’s mother, Adrianna Jones, left him in the care of Stacy Wheeler Cobb, 48, who was operating the daycare without a license.
However, on the day of the incident, Kaimir was the only child present in the building.
Cobb informed police that she had taken an afternoon nap and assumed Kaimir was also resting, police said the mirror.
During this time, Kaimir managed to venture outside into the yard where the two Rottweilers, who were kept in a kennel, were kept. That’s when the dogs attacked and killed him before emergency services could arrive.
After the brutal attack, Ms. Cobb was detained by police and transported to the Lowndes County Jail and, People reports, charged with second-degree cruelty to children and second-degree murder.
In the wake of the horrific tragedy, Kaimir’s mother Adrianna set up a GoFundMe page, which has raised just over $32,774 (£24,472) of the target goal of $40,000 (£29,867).
In a statement on the page, Adrianna talked about her experiences that day and why she chose that daycare center. She said: “I am a single mother of one child, my heart, my 2-year-old Kaimir Jones.
“I am also a hardworking, loving mother trying to build a life for me and my son. I was at work and my son was murdered in a home daycare. A home daycare, that was highly recommended”
Adrianna further revealed that when she left work early, police officers were already on site.
She explained: “The only reason I know anything happened is because the owner usually communicates all day and she hasn’t responded in about three hours.
“My gut instinct as a mother was to leave work early and see what’s going on. I left early and flagged down eight police stations at the home daycare location. They were already inside taking pictures and so on.
“This was a heartbreaking, devastating and traumatizing scene that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. This is how I found my baby. The investigation is still ongoing.
“Unfortunately, I did not have life insurance for my two-year-old son, so I am asking the community for help in raising money for his memorial funeral. Anything will help and anything is appreciated. Thank you.”
In a statement, Valdosta Police Chief Leslie Manahan said, “This is a terrible and tragic event that should never have happened, but due to the perpetrator’s negligence, a mother tragically lost a child.”
