Donald Trump has condemned the anti -Semitic version of two Israeli embassy staff in the American capital.
Writing on his Truth Social Platform, the US President said: “This terrible [Washington] DC murders, clearly based on anti -Semitism, must now end! Hate and radicalism have no place in the US. “Compassion for the families of the victims. So sad that such things like this can happen! God bless you all!”
His statement comes after two diplomats apparently “executed” in a “corrupt act of anti -Semitic terrorism”.
A man and woman were killed while leaving an event in the Capital Jewish Museum in the center of Washington DC, officials said.
In a statement about X, formerly Twitter, said the American Homeland Security Chief Kristi: “Two Israeli embassy staff were killed meaninglessly near the Jewish museum in Washington Dc. Pray please pray for the victims’ families. We will bring this corrupt perpetrator to justice.”
The shooting happened at 9:05 PM Local time on Wednesday close to government buildings in the heart of the American capital.
Danny Danon, the ambassador of Israel in the United Nations, said that the incident was a “corrupt act of anti -Semitic terrorism”.
He added: “Damage diplomats and the Jewish community exceeds a red line. We are convinced that the American authorities will take strong action against those responsible for this criminal act.”
Detectives still have to determine a potential motive for the shooting, but working on the assumption that the victims were the target because of their faith.
A spokesperson for the Israeli embassy confirmed that two employees, who were not mentioned, were “close up” while attending an event in the museum, adding: “We have full faith in law enforcement agencies at both the local and federal levels to protect the shooter and the Jewish community of the United States.”
The suspect was seen back and forth and shouted “Free Palestine” before he opened fire in a group that stood outside the museum.
Impromising reports suggest that he then went back to the museum in an apparent state of shock before he asked someone to call the police and then confessed. He is currently being detained in custody.
The incident comes in the midst of increasing incidents of anti-Semitism and after Great Britain has suspended conversations about a trade agreement with Israel in response to the military escalation of the country in Gaza, which is described as “morally not to be justified”.
Israel has confronted with a choir of criticism of the refusal to allow supplies of food, fuel and medicines in the enclave.
On Monday, former football captain of England Gary Lineker, 64, was forced to leave the BBC after he had apologized for sharing a social media post about Zionism with a photo of a rat, historically used as an anti-Semitic insult. Lineker would cover the FIFA World Cup 2026 for the broadcaster, but left after the incident was sentenced internationally.
This is a crushing new story and will be updated.
