The stage was set for the right-handed batsman to get some match practice ahead of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand. Goa were bowled out for just 211 in 33.3 overs after Prabhsimran Singh won the toss and elected to bowl first. There was no pressure on the scoreboard on Shubman but he was dismissed by former Karnataka speedster Vasuki Koushik in the fifth over. He was caught by Suyash Prabhudessai.
Shubman has not registered a score above 50 in the white-ball format since February 20, 2025. He has played seven ODIs during this period. The Punjab batsman was recently dropped from the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup. He didn’t score a single half-century in the 15 T20Is he played in the last year. After his latest failure in domestic cricket, all eyes will be on his performance against the Kiwis in the upcoming ODIs.
After being dismissed cheaply against Goa, Shubman was mercilessly trolled on social media, with some users opining that the 26-year-old cannot even survive against bowlers at club level these days.
Here’s a look at how social media users trolled Shubman after his dismal outing against Goa:
Shubman Gill fell short of a century by just 89 runs today. Unfortunate dismissal for our captain; the ball clearly did not respect his leadership….
Now it makes sense why he skipped the Maharashtra match. Domestic camping pitches do not have a ‘flat track’…. pic.twitter.com/4bP1bkeWdS— Rakesh (@Rakesh328334981) January 6, 2026
Shubman Gill tried to kill the swing by stepping forward, but the swing survived, Gill did not…
Once again proves why flat tracks are in his comfort zone….
Gill vs swing: strategy fails….

Meet Shubman Gill
– Cannot score in ODIs
– Can’t score in T20Is
– Can’t score in Domestic
– Can’t score in a test match without a flat pitch.Still, he wants captaincy for all formats. pic.twitter.com/0nUiGfQDJw

🚨 Shubman Gill’s poor form continues
– He was dismissed at 12 (13) against Goa in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Whether international or domestic. He is constantly falling in every match but Gautam Gambhir and Agarkar wanted to make him the captain of all formats🤦pic.twitter.com/2aCy5l5MG0

While Shubman failed to score the bat, Punjab managed to register a comfortable win against the Deepraj Gaonkar-led side. Punjab romped home in 35 overs on Tuesday, with six wickets still in the bank. With this victory, Prabhsimran and Co. first place in Group C, with 20 points from six games.
