Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) President Vijay said on Tuesday (October 28, 2025) that just as the incessant rain had drenched and caused harvested paddy grains to sprout and go to waste, the ongoing public anger against the DMK government was also growing and would eventually push it out of power.
In a statement, Mr Vijay wondered why the state government had not acted quickly when reports emerged that rice grown through the hard work of farmers was soaked and damaged.
“Any government that truly looked after the interests of farmers would protect their livelihood and take steps to improve their economic conditions. Instead, the DMK government failed to procure rice on time, allowing the farmers’ hard-earned produce to germinate in the rain. It is painful that this situation is being repeated year after year,” he said.
He also wanted to know what measures the government had taken to prevent damage to crops during monsoon and what arrangements had been made for safe storage of the harvested rice. With the northeast monsoon still active, the state government should immediately take all precautionary measures on a war footing to prevent further damage to crops and harvested grains and protect people from the effects of rain, he demanded.
