In the high-pressure world of the Indian Premier League (IPL), emotions often run high, but only a few moments leave a lasting impression on the fans. Such an incident recently surfaced again Deepak Chahar shared a story on MS Dhoni, revealing the fiery side of the usually calm CSK captain.

Chahar, who spent six seasons with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and also played under Dhoni at Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS), recalled the moment during his appearance on Bigg Boss 19’s family week.

The incident took place during the IPL 2019 season in a match between CSK and Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Chasing 161, Punjab needed 39 runs off the last 12 balls. The pressure was immense and Dhoni trusted the relatively inexperienced Chahar to deliver the crucial penultimate over.

What happened next was a nightmare start. Chahar opened the over with a mid-length no-ball that sent Sarfaraz Khan to the boundary. The next delivery also turned out to be a no-ball and Punjab added two more runs. Within two legal attempts, Chahar had already conceded eight runs without delivering a legitimate ball. The atmosphere in the stadium tightened and Dhoni’s frustration was clearly visible.

Chahar revealed that Dhoni marched towards him and angrily said, “TYou’re not stupid, I’m stupid..’ (You’re not an idiot, I am). It was Dhoni’s way of taking responsibility for awarding the over, but the stern tone made Chahar feel like his career was on the verge of collapse. He assumed he would never be trusted with death again.

But instead of succumbing to the pressure, Chahar controlled himself remarkably. During the remaining deliveries, he conceded just five more runs and took the crucial wicket of David Miller. After a disastrous start, he saved the over, making it a momentum-shifting moment for CSK.

In total it cost more than 13 runs, much better than initially threatened, and the wicket proved vital. CSK eventually won the match by 22 runs, and the episode became a reminder of both Dhoni’s leadership fire and Chahar’s resilience under pressure.
