TT Kidz encourages young people to take part in the tournament – Table Tennis England

The first Halifax Charitable Trust Junior Table Tennis Trophy tournament was held at Bishop Wilton Village Hall. Lady Halifax and Lord Halifax were guests of honor at the tournament.

Bugthorpe CE Primary School A Team, Ewen Braun and Askar Smith, were crowned champions. In a thrilling and entertaining final they defeated James Thompson and Rory Johnston from Sutton upon Derwent CE Primary School.

Other participating primary schools were Bishop Wilton and St Martins (Fangfoss).

In additional competition, the Over-11s tournament was won by Niall Ferguson and Jacob Payne of the Ryedale Table Tennis League, who defeated the Woldgate School team of Oscar Pullen and Orson Innes. Woldgate School also received an award for the most sporting team of the tournament.

All participants received a certificate of achievement for outstanding skill and sportsmanship in table tennis. These, together with the trophies and medals, were presented by Lady Halifax.

The support of the Halifax Charitable Trust has been invaluable in enabling Tony Fuller, Chairman of the Table Tennis Club, to coach the Table Tennis England TT Kidz program at Amotherby, Bishop Wilton, Bugthorpe, St Martins (Fangfoss) and Sutton upon Derwent primary schools.

Over the past twelve months, over 130 children from the above schools have benefited from this and provided the platform for the current tournament.

In her speech, Lady Halifax recognized the fantastic turnout and the joy that every child from all schools had in being introduced to table tennis through the TT Kidz coaching program and through Bishop Wilton Table Tennis Club.
