The coastal areas of Greece brace for potential tsunami after a strong earthquake of 5.9 Magnitude, the island of Crete declined earlier today.
The Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection has given a grim warning for the Kasos region, which advises locals and visitors to keep the beaches off and to find urgent safety.
“An earthquake with a size 5.9 took place of 48 km se from Kasos. Risk of possible tsunami in your region,” the ministry announced through its official communication channels. “Go away from the coast immediately. Follow the instructions of the local authorities.”
Feeled over the Aegean Sea, with a center point Net offshore from Crete, the earthquake led to the fear of later shudders while emergency teams prepared for after -shocks.
Although no victims or serious wrecks were reported at this stage, the Greek authorities keep vigilant about developments, asking for public caution, reports The mirror.
History repeats itself because the Seismic hotspot of Crete is confronted with another natural threat – not long since the October 2021 earthquake barely stirred a month after resulting fatalities and damage caused by the Heraklion environment.
