It happens every year and is more common, because the play-offs turned into a four-round format in 2022 because there are more meaningful games in the last few weeks.
It also means that one or two potential teams with losing records can succeed in messing up a kind of play -off aspiration for a competition.
From the baseball perspective of New York, the team that ruined things, perhaps the Marlins, is least based on the combined 56 games that the Mets and Yankees played.
While the Yankees won 16 of it and won the Mets 11 timesThree losses each were against the Marlins, which greatly improved compared to last year when it went 62-100 after winning 84 times in the regular season to reach a wildcard series with the Phillies.
Recent evidence indicates that the Marlins are the kind of Bugaboo for the New York teams, which are confronted with different levels of difficulty in their treasure hunts to become division winners.
The Yankees go straight against the Astros, Blue Jays, Tigers and Red Sox at three games in September for a seasonal 13-game stretch against teams with losing records.
The METS will start September -September competitions with a group that set team records in one month before attack, but have difficulty pitching frequently. Of their 26 games, 20 are against teams with winning records, while three are against the annoying Marlins and three against the Careening Nationals.
Although they crept back under .500 After they had briefly arrived, the Marlins went a combined 6-1 against the Yankees and Mets in August. The Yankees arrived on 1 August Miami and drove on the positive buzz by adding Relievers David Bednar, Camilo Doval and Jake Bird together with utility man Jose Caballero on the Handelsdeadline of 31 July and were surpassed 22-15 in a three-game sweep from the Marlins.
The nightmare -like series of events in Miami sent the Yankees from 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays in the Al East. The Yankees eventually dropped seven times 6 1/2 games and did not really start to make a dent in their shortage until this week when they won seven to arrive within two games before they took a 3-2 loss to the White Sox on Sunday.
The Mets won four of the six games of the Marlins in the opening weeks when they went 21-10 until the end of April on their way to a record of 45-24 and a 5 1/2 match ahead of the Phillies in the NL East. Now the Mets 29-40 are in their last 69 competitions, and the Marlins have surpassed three times.
The Marlins benefited on Thursday for three errors in a win of 7-4. After taking a loss of 19-8 on Friday while the Mets Jonah Tong revealed For Five Inning, the Marlins Five scored in the first inning, with two gay people from Juan Soto in a 11-8 victory on Saturday and easily achieved a 5-1 victory Sunday.
The application and spoiler mentality were clear on Sunday, starting with Sandy Alcantara, making the Mets seem lifeless for most of his seven innings. Alcantara was one of the more prominent starters who reportedly went to the deadline and it seemed reasonable to think that the Mets were a team that could check in and even have the trouble to get him.
The Marlins will not end with 100 losses and will probably avoid 95, if not 90. They get a crack to ruin the mets with a seasonal series at home. There can be similar fears if 2007 and 2008 if the Mets do not do enough between Sunday and the last weekend to secure a play -off berth.
“There are many young players who are hungry all the time. They want to be there, get the chance to play the game and win the game,” said Alcantara.
The Marlins may also choose things for the Phillies search to avoid the third best record of the NL or the offer of Detroit to stay as the team with the top record in the Al.
For now they are potential spoilers for the title of the Yankees and Mets Division. The Mets arrived this weekend and came from a three-game Sweep of the Phillies, an experienced team that was barely led by their division by reduced to four games.
And then they killed the buzz in matter that looked like the Yankees did the same when every trade purchase contributed to a Walk-off 13-12 loss, the attack collected two hits from Eury Perez in the second game and Luis Gil struggled in his debut in the final series.
This time, apart from the record-setting events in combination with Tong’s hyped debut, the Mets were a sloppy Downer and they were unable to properly process it in a nasty opponent.
“It means a lot,” said Marlin’s leadoff Hitter Xavier Edwards. “You always want to go out and start a road trip while we hot, what we did. I have the feeling that we usually play the Mets quite difficult. Just a kind of one of those teams that we connect a bit well and they are difficult to play here, whether it is Miami.”
There is certainly a precedent for this thing in the recent baseball history of New York.
In 2022 the Mets ended with 101 victories, their second most in team history. Three that they had not obtained were at home against the 74-88 Chicago Cubs on September 12-14 when they were surpassed 15-6 and saw a division lead trimmed to half a match.
It was not the only reason for the Mets that blows a seven-game lead by going by the rest of the 2022 season, but it certainly did not help, especially when they lost the division lead during the last weekend of the season in Atlanta, where they also lost the Tiebreaker.
In all accounts, the regular 2018 season was successful for the Yankees in the first season of manager Aaron Boone after a decade by Joe Girardi. They won 100 games, but only 12 of 19 against the 47-115 Baltimore Orioles, while the Red SOX won 16 of 19 meetings with the Orioles to help claim the division with eight games and finally a fourth championship since 2004
The Yankees and Mets are in which measure fairly safe in their wildcard situations. If the situation in the last few weeks becomes a bit shorter with those places in Jeopardy, the overwhelming results against the Marlins can be cited, among other things.
