‘Fluffy’, who is on an eight-fight UFC win streak, withdrew from his third fight in 2025 for undisclosed reasons against the rising Reinier de Ridder. He was replaced by Brendan Allen, who defeated ‘RDR’ on short notice.
Recently, op The Ariel Helwani Showthe host asked ‘Fluffy’ the reason behind his withdrawal, to which he replied:
“I really don’t like telling people what was wrong because then they just focus on it, you know what I mean?”
After not wanting to reveal the reason behind his withdrawal from the ‘RDR’ fight, Hernandez added that he doesn’t care if fans find out because he is only in the fight game to make money and move on.
Hernandez, 32, isn’t sure how long he plans to keep fighting. He confessed to Helwani that once he retires, he wants to build his private farm, have a house and his own gym and never hear from anyone again.
“At the end of the day I’m just trying to make money and get the most out of this game. I don’t know how long I’ll stay [till the wheels fall off basically.] As long as my body allows it. If I can’t train and do things, I’ll hang them up, but for now I’m super hungry. I have plans that I need to implement… I’m just trying to go MIA, build my private ranch, have my house, have a private gym and probably never hear from anyone again.”
‘Fluffy’ has a lot more work to do and wants to become a UFC champion and make all the money he needs to achieve his goals before potentially retiring:
“I feel like you don’t even get any real money until you get a title. So for me it’s like, okay, then I need the belt and then we’ll go from there. Make history and then fuck off later.”
Hernandez also revealed during the show that the promotion has not yet promised him a title shot if he beats Sean Strickland next month. However, he doesn’t care and will take his chances against any man in the octagon to “make money and get out.”
“I don’t really ask a lot of questions, man. I just do what I do, make my money and go out.”

Anthony Hernandez talks about staying high in training and sticking with it during UFC Fight Week
Speaking to Ariel Helwani, Anthony Hernandez also admitted that he usually stays high by taking edibles regularly. ‘Fluffy’ says he only stays sober during weigh-ins and fight nights. He also acknowledged that he was sparring under the influence of marijuana.
“From weigh-ins to fights, I’m sober, but besides that, I’m usually so high… I’m just calmer when I’m high. I’m not going to try to take your damn head off. So that’s probably good for everyone. Maybe I’m a little slower and lethargic, but I’ve never felt this good in a fight, so it doesn’t really matter.”
