Trust the process: Natalie Nakase – Wslam

Wslam: We had the pleasure of interviewing you before the season and you said: “Trust the trial” in what brewed in Golden State. See everything you wanted to come out, how does it feel?

Natalie Nakase: it feels like a dream. I have the best staff and I think I have the most understanding and hard -working players. And so “trust in the process” absolutely comes to fruition, because, again, the big hearts and my coaching staff and the collaboration of hard -working and coaching players, the trust is certainly VIB.

WSLAM: What does Valkyries basketball mean for you?

NK: I think basketball is cruel. I think it’s grim. I think it is passionate and I think it is inspiring, because if you have fully connected 12 players on the field and the best apart, I think something can happen.

WSLAM: You have put this murderous mentality in your dressing room and we saw it on the field. How has this vision evolved within the team? How did you make it?

NK: This is how I want the team to go, and they see how they adapt and come out of their comfort zones, they are really themselves. It is the players who are their authentic self. I don’t really feel that I could really create them to be something different than herself, and I want them to be themselves. I think when people are outside their comfort zone, people do their passion – they are at their best if they can be themselves. I really only try to push them to be the best version of themselves. Sometimes it is uncomfortable. Sometimes telling truth is hard to hear, but as I said, I have 12 coaching players who like to work hard. And if you have that combination, everything is possible.
