President Donald Trump attacked Brown University on Wednesday, claiming the campus did not have enough security cameras after the FBI was criticized for arresting someone in the fatal shooting case and then releasing the person due to insufficient evidence.
Trump doubts about lack of cameras
About Truth Social, Trump wrote“Why did Brown University have so few security cameras?” and added: “There can be no excuse for that. It just doesn’t get any worse in modern times!!!”
Brown spokesman Brian Clark pushed back in a statement shared tells CNN that the university operates “an extensive network of security cameras,” with more than 1,200 installed on both indoor and outdoor campuses.
He said Brown places cameras in high-traffic areas and at building entrances and exits, but they do not cover “every hallway, classroom, laboratory and office” in more than 250 buildings, and said making specific placements public would be a security risk.
SWAT search in New Hampshire draws attention
Police have identified a suspect in last weekend’s mass shooting at Brown University and are investigating a possible connection to the killing of an MIT professor two days later, a person familiar with the investigation told Reuters.
SWAT officers and other law enforcement officers converged on a storage facility in Salem, New Hampshire, as investigators sought clues related to the case, the source said. Authorities have not announced an arrest or named the suspect.
The shooting at Brown left two students dead and nine others injured, authorities said. Mayor of Providence Brett Smiley said the manhunt has left the city “restless and eager” for an arrest.

The murder of an MIT professor brings up a possible connection
Two days after the campus attack, someone fatally shot the MIT professor Nuno FG Loureiroat his home in Brookline, Massachusetts. Loureiro worked at MIT’s Plasma Science and Fusion Center, The Associated Press reported on Thursday.
Earlier this week, an FBI official told Reuters that investigators did not believe the cases were related, but authorities were now assessing information that raised the possibility of a link.
Providence police said the masked gunman fled on foot into nearby streets. Investigators relied on home security footage after citing limited surveillance around the building. Police have released images and video of a man they say carried out the attack and have asked the public to help identify him.
Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez told Reuters on Wednesday: “He could be anywhere.” Police also released photos of another man seen near the area and said they wanted to speak to him as a potential witness.
