Trump certainly chose not to release Combs.

Donald Trump announced that Sean “Diddy” Combs has formally submitted a written request to obtain a presidential pardon.

The president shared the information about the disgraced media mogul in a recently revealed interview with the New York Times. During the sitting conversationTrump dropped the dime on Diddy and his efforts to shorten his prison sentence.

Trump shared how the jailed entertainer asked his fellow media personality for a pardon “through a letter.” He even offered to show the NYT reporters Diddy’s actual letter. Although he never honored the offer he made, he confirmed his opinion on whether or not Diddy would receive the crucial pardon.

Unfortunately for the Bad Boy Records founder, Trump has no plans to issue a pardon anytime soon. This news differs from Trump’s still vague, yet more optimistic view on the issue, which was first floated months ago. Referring to Combs as his old nickname “Puff Daddy,” the elected official first mentioned the request during an Oct. 6 news conference.

However, Term reports that Diddy’s previous criticism Trump seriously undermined his chances for a pardon during his first term. Diddy’s self-proclaimed opponent, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, also urged Trump not to grant the pardon. Despite Combs’ legal team attempting to appeal to the president, Trump has explicitly closed this option.

Trump mentioned the more formal request again and chose not to grant a pardon. The move means Diddy will have to serve the remainder of his four-year sentence.

Following his headline-grabbing indictment and trial, Diddy was found guilty in July of several charges, including transportation to engage in prostitution. However, the jury acquitted him of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and extortion.

Despite the acquittals, the father of seven children was still sentenced to 50 months in prison. Combs is currently in the Federal Correction Institution, also known as Fort Dix in New Jersey. If Trump maintains his current decision to forgo clemency, Diddy will remain behind bars until his expected release in May 2028.
