Trump promises to make voter ID mandatory before midterm elections

However, Trump suggested he could use an executive order to implement new voter ID rules.

Donald Trump is adamant about making a national voter ID requirement official ahead of the midterm elections.

The American president shared his plans to enforce voter ID in new posts on Truth Social, released on February 13. In the social media clips, he revealed how he plans to bring about the legislation through an executive order.

Trump blamed Democrats for allowing the requirement to be ignored, leaving him to take on the task himself. The president also claims that he has thoroughly investigated the matter. He noted that he had plans to present his case “in the very near future.”

“The Democrats refuse to vote for voter ID or citizenship. The reason is very simple: they want to continue cheating in elections,” Trump wrote. “This was not what our founders desired. I have searched the depths of the legal arguments that have not yet been articulated or vetted on this subject, and will present an irrefutable argument in the very near future.

However, Trump remains condemned for implementing voting ID before the 2026 midterm elections this fall. So much so that he’s willing to bypass Congress for it.

He added, “There will be voter ID for the midterm elections, whether approved by Congress or not!”

In a follow-up post, Trump continued his tirade against Democratic lawmakers and his alleged suspicions regarding their opposition to voter ID.

“We can no longer let Democrats get away with no voter ID. These are horrible, dishonest CHEATERS,” he wrote in a subsequent post. “They have all kinds of reasons why it shouldn’t be passed, and then laugh brazenly in the back rooms after their ridiculous presentations.”

Opponents fear that the requirement would endanger the voting rights of various groups.

A current bill in the House of Representatives, the SAVE America Act, would require proof of citizenship and photo identification in order to vote. According to CNBCMost Democrats condemned the Trump-backed bill for its potential disenfranchisement.

While Trump has pushed the bill to help the Republican Party, others say the opposite: Many people in red states do not have the proper ID to vote, while many more Blue state residents have passports. CNNAbby Phillip, in response to conservative pundit Scott Jennings’ support for the bill, tweeted: “Here are the facts: the seven states where two-thirds of Americans don’t have passports. They’re all red states: West Virginia, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. Yes, that’s your home state, Scott.”

The president plans to settle the matter through an executive order, although the validity of such an action remains unclear.

“This is an issue that must be fought, and it must be fought NOW! If we cannot get it through Congress, there are legal reasons why this SCAM is not allowed. I will present them in the form of an Executive Order soon.”
